Don’t you love it when the people who consistently tore up black families say that the lack of black family cohesion is the problem? Long ago, back when I was in college, I had an extended conversation with a man from the Caribbean. He told me a peculiar thing: he wouldn’t date black American women. He was black, and he would only date black women, but not Americans. I asked him why. He said that they were lacking the inner pride that Caribbean women had. I think what meant was that many black Americans were beaten down, psychologically, and he could see it. I can’t say whether his comparison is valid in any way — the Caribbean has its own issues with slavery. But I’m pretty darn sure that you can’t hold your boot against someone’s neck for an extended period without their neck suffering the long-term effects of it.
