Your analysis may be a partial answer to the issue of antivaxxers. It’s an interesting point you make. I think humanity’s worst fear is being out of control — which we are, all the time, every day. Control freaks are, at heart, fearful persons. I should know, I am one. But I think there’s a bit more to it. It’s interesting that vaccines offer a measure of control, in that your kid won’t get THAT disease if they have it. But from talking to many antivaxxers, some of whom I know all too well, they see a conspiracy, it’s true. And these people are both liberals and conservatives, mind. New Agers and evangelicals alike. They see a conspiracy from actors who are seeking to control or harm their kids. Who are these actors? Oligarchs in the government, Big Pharma, Big Money, Wall Street. On the fringes, they include the people spraying chemicals in the skies and DARPA. So I’m not at all clear that they want an authoritarian daddy to save them. Many of them want total autonomy, including those who believe in “faith healing.” It is a rejection of modernity, with its pollution and Monsanto. It is, perhaps, a reaction to the complexity of our lives, which is overwhelming. Why can’t we go back to the garden after all? There’s a good part of that. But in the process, they throw the baby out with the bath water.
